Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction and the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office on July 5signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in applying abuilding information model (BIM) in Vietnam’s construction industry.
As part of activities in the global infrastructure programme fundedby the UK Government’s Prosperity Fund, this aimsto build a master strategy of digitalisation in the field in Vietnam.
Under the MoU, the UK Government, through the UK’s Center for Digital Built Britain,will work with the Steering Committee of BIM (Ministry of Construction’s Institute for Construction Economics) to developstandards and guidelines and support the implementation of a number of BIMpilot projects in Vietnam.
Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh said that Vietnam is in the periodof renovation and development, so its demand for construction investment isvery large.
In recent times, the Government and the Ministry of Construction have alwayspaid special attention to managing the investment efficiency of projects, henoted.
Vietnam’s goal is to strengthen the control of quality, transparency andpublicity of construction investment projects, in order to shorten constructionprogress and reduce losses.
Accordingto Sinh, the Prime Minister approved the BIM project in construction andoperation of projects in Decision No. 2500 / QD-TTg dated December 22, 2016with the aim of improving productivity, quality and efficiency in the buildingsector.
The UK has extensive experience in urban development and management, planningand construction, and it is also very successful in the BIM model, he noted,adding that cooperation with the UK side is hoped to help Vietnam complete institutionsand standards in construction activities, thus early applying the BIM model inconstruction investment.
Baroness Fairhead, Minister of State for Tradeand Export Promotion at the Department for International Trade of theUK said she was impressed by Vietnam's great potential and demand for bothpublic and private technical infrastructure projects.
TheUK has built a world-class system for using BIM in public works to saveconstruction costs, she stressed.
Withits experience, the UK Government would like to provide information about theBIM application for Vietnam, thus helping the Southeast Asian nation successfullyimplement this model.
UK companies, which boast expertise in executinghigh-quality infrastructure projects around the globe, can help Vietnamimplement investment projects in this field efficiently and sustainably, sheaffirmed.
The application of BIM in the construction industry isexpected to contribute to raising productivity, quality and efficiency inconstruction investment activities and operation management. This is animportant solution to approach the 4th Industrial Revolution of theconstruction sector.-VNA
