Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will earn 3.15 billion USD from the exportof 6.15 tonnes of rice this year, up 19.6 percent in value and 5.7 percent in volumecompared to the last year’s figures, statistics show.
According to the Agro Processing Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) underthe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country shipped 5.7million tonnes of rice abroad during January-November and bagged 2.9 billionUSD, increasing 5.6 percent in quantity and 17.7 percent in value against thesame time last year.
Accounting for 24.1 percent of the market share, China remained the largestimporter of Vietnamese rice. However, exports to the East Asian market in thefirst months of this year experienced a fall of 39.1 percent in volume and 30percent in value to 1.24 million tonnes and 636.2 million USD, respectively.
In stark contrast, substantial surge was seen in the shipments to Indonesia (up65.8 times), Iraq (2.6 times), China’s Hong Kong (71.1 percent), thePhilippines (58.5 percent), and Malaysia (17.2 percent).
Notably, the price of exported rice hit 504 USD per tonne on average duringJanuary-October, up 12.3 percent. White rice exports accounted for 51 percentof the total earnings, jasmine rice 32 percent, glutinous rice 12 percent, andjaponica rice 5 percent.
The AgroTrade said that rice exports have shown positive signals recently, withmany securing contracts.
Tan Long Group wonthe right to export 118,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines on November 20,to go along with the firm’s other large export contracts to the Republic ofKorea.
Between now and the year’s end, Indonesia and the Philippines plan to importmore rice via international bidding and government contracts, while Egypt isforecast to buy 500,000 tonnes of the food at the beginning of next year as thecountry reduced its cultivation land.-VNA
