Hanoi (VNA) – Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of theGeneral Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of NationalDefence received Commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, Air ChiefMarshal Chaiyapruk Didyasarin, in Hanoi on November 16.

Giang noted that defence cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand overthe past years has grown strongly with practical outcomes, especially in delegationexchange, personnel training, air and naval defence cooperation.

The close defence partnership has helped reinforce and strengthen thefriendship, mutual understanding and trust between the people and armies of thetwo countries, he said.

Giang also lauded the cooperation results between Vietnam’s AirForce-Air Defence and the Royal Thai Air Force, expressing his hope that thetwo forces will continue promoting their collaboration.

He affirmed that Vietnam backs Thailand in performing the role of ASEANChair in 2019 and expects to receive support from Thailand in 2020 when Vietnamassumes the same role.

For his part, Chaiyapruk said that his working visit aims to furtherfoster cooperation between the air forces of Thailand and Vietnam.

He held that the cooperation between Vietnam’s Air Force-Air Defence andthe Royal Thai Air Force has been deepened, especially through the exchange ofexperiences in aviation safety, rescue, training, and connectivity among youngofficers.

The cooperative ties between the armies of Thailand and Vietnam has alsocontributed to strengthening the ASEAN Political-Security Community, one of thethree key pillars of the ASEAN Community.-VNA
