The Vietnam Embassy in Algeria is keeping a close watch of a recent case of Vietnamese workers being abused by employers in the African nation and will take appropriate intervention measures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the workers, the Foreign Ministry said on October 7.
In reply to reporters’ question regarding the case, the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Affairs Division said immediately upon receiving the information, the Foreign Ministry instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria to meet with the employers and Vietnamese workers to inquire into the situation while taking necessary measures to protect Vietnamese citizens.
In September, embassy officials visited the place where the worrisome treatment took place many times to collect further information and encourage Vietnamese workers in distress.
Embassy staff also coordinated with SIMCO Song Da, which brought the workers to Algeria, to work with the employer side over the case, requesting prompt settlement of the case while demanding the employer side to respect commitments made with Vietnamese partners and fully ensure legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese workers.
“We request that employers respect and observe their signed agreements with Vietnamese labour export companies as well as to give equal and humane treatment to Vietnamese workers and ensure adequate living and working conditions for the workers ,” stated the division’s representative.-VNA
