Twenty-four doctors from the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital have coordinated with their Lao counterparts to provide free eye examinations and surgeries to war veterans and the disadvantaged with cataracts in Vientiane, Laos.
The war veterans associations of HCM City and Vientiane and the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) facilitated the programmes from August 24-28.
Doctors performed free surgeries for over 70 Lao patients who have long suffered from cataracts, according to Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital Tran Anh Tuan.
This is the fourth time over the past eight years the hospital has sent doctors to give free eye check-ups and provide operations to those in need in Laos, he added.
