Vietnam successfully chairs ASEAN Committee in South Africa

Pretoria (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassadorto South Africa Vu Van Dung has handed over the post of Chairman of the ASEANCommittee in Pretoria (APC) to the Indonesia Ambassador. 

Hosting a meeting of ambassadors of ASEANcountries in South Africa at the end of his term as APC Chairman, Dung reviewedthe committee’s activities over the past six months, including APC meetings,ASEAN Sports and Family Day and golf tournaments for offices of APC militaryattaches. 

APC members discussed specific measures tointensify their cooperation, raise public awareness of ASEAN and promoterelations between the ten-member group and South Africa.

Accordingly, the APC will coordinate with thehost country to organise a celebration of the 50th founding anniversary ofASEAN on ASEAN Day (August 8) and exchange programmes between APC andrepresentatives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). 

At the same time, the committee will call onbusinesses to participate in the Africa & ASEAN Business Expo (AABE)scheduled to be held in Johannesburg city at the end of this year and increasepeople-to-people exchanges between ASEAN countries and South Africa. 

At the meeting, APC ambassadors appreciatedcontributions made by the Vietnamese Embassy and Ambassador Dung in particularover the past tenure. 

They also voiced their support for theIndonesian Ambassador as the new APC Chairman in order to organise moremeaningful activities to strengthen ties between ASEAN and South Africa as wellas regional countries.-VNA
