Vietnam, Sri Lanka to extend cooperation

The consensus was reached at the third session of the Vietnam-Sri LankaJoint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation inHanoi on July 17.

Vietnamese Foreign MinisterPham Binh Minh and his visiting Sri Lanka counterpart, Prof. GaminiLakshman Peiris co-presided over the meeting.

Thetwo sides agreed that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and SriLanka is developing fruitfully, especially after the visit to Sri Lankaby President Truong Tan Sang on October last year.

They held that the exchange of high-level visits is of specialsignificance in boosting the traditional friendship and multi-facetedcooperation between the two countries.

Both sidesreviewed outcomes of the implementation of agreements inked at thesecond session and shared their viewpoints on regional and internationalissues of mutual concern.

They expressed theirpleasure at the outcomes of the third session and agreed that allcontents approved at the meeting will create important foundations forthe two countries to further develop their traditional friendship andmulti-faceted cooperation.

After the thirdgathering, the FMs witnessed the signing of an agreement on airtransport services between the two countries.

Thefourth session of the Vietnam-Sri Lanka Joint Committee on Economic,Scientific and Technological Cooperation is scheduled to be held inSri Lanka in 2014.
