Binh Duong (VNA) – Information on trade and tourism cooperationbetween Vietnam and South Africa was highlighted at a conference held in ThuDau Mot city, the southern province of Binh Duong on February 23.
The event, held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the provincialPeople’s Committee and South African Embassy in Vietnam, also detailed businessopportunities in Africa.
To elevate cooperation between two countries, managers, experts and enterprisesdiscussed measures to enhance international relations, trade and investment andintroduced potential projects and favourable policies to attract investment.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Thanh Liem said thatthe two sides should promote the trading of wood, garments, leather shoes andhandicraft products while exploiting South Africa’s potential in woodmaterials, cotton fibre and steel.
Vietnamis currently a leading strategic partner of South Africa in Southeast Asia. Inthe past decade, bilateral trade rose from 192 million USD in 2007 to 920million USD in 2013.
Last year, two-way trade stood at 1.1 billion USD, with Vietnam’s exportsaccounting for 1 billion USD.-VNA
