Chairman of the People’s Committee of Long An province Do Huu Lam sent adiplomatic note on July 2 concerning recent violent actions byCambodian extremists in the Vietnamese locality to Governor of SvayRieng province of Cambodia Chieng Om.
The note requested Cambodia’s authorised agencies have satisfactory solutions to the case.
TheCambodian side was also asked to intensify control and management inorder to prevent similar cases from occurring, which would affect theprogress of border delimitation between the two countries and the soundrelationship between the two localities.
The incident happened onJune 26, when a group of about 250 Cambodians, including a number ofparliament members from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party(CNRP), encroached into the area of border marker No. 203 in Long Anprovince. Vietnamese relevant forces and locals stopped the group andexplained their wrongful act, but some of the extremists attacked andinjured seven people./.
