New York (VNA) – Vietnam andSaint Lucia have agreed to establish diplomatic ties at the ambassador leveland apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to their ties.
A joint communiqué on theestablishment of the diplomatic ties was signed by Ambassador Nguyen PhuongNga, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and AmbassadorCosmos Richardson, head of Saint Lucia’s Permanent Mission to the UN, in NewYork on June 26.
Saint Lucia holds an importantposition in the Caribbean and has participated in many regional andinternational organiations.
The establishment of the ties willcreate a firm foundation to boost multi-faceted cooperation between the twocountries.
The event reflects Vietnam’s foreignpolicy of diversification and multilateralisation of international relations, and attaching importance to relations with LatinAmerican nations.
The communiqué was sent to the UNSecretary General Antonio Guterres to inform other UN members about theestablishment of the diplomatic ties.-VNA
