Vietnam, Russia foster parliamentary cooperation

Moscow (VNA) - Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Judicial AffairsCommittee Le Thi Nga held working sessions with Russian officials in Moscow onJune 20-21 to discuss bilateral cooperation in parliamentary activities andjudicial supervision.

On June 21, Nga met with Deputy Chair of the Federation CouncilCommittee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Alexander Karlin,representatives of several offices of the upper house, and leaders in charge ofjudicial affairs in major Russian provinces.

She told the host that her visit aimed to learn from Russia’s newexperience in law making as Vietnam’s law system has been greatly influenced bythat of Russia.

Karlin affirmed that leaders of Russia and its legislative body allmaintain a consistent policy of consolidating and intensifying the country’scomprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. He suggested both sidesdiscuss measures to further develop collaboration between the two parliaments,especially between their committees.

Meeting with Russian Deputy Minister of Justice Mikhail Galperin on thesame day, Nga told him that Vietnam is planning to revise the Law on JudicialExpertise and seek Russia’s experience in this field.

Galperin said that he had invited representatives of many relatedministries and sectors to the meeting to discuss as many issues as possiblewith the Vietnamese side.

Earlier on June 20, the Vietnamese delegation had a working session withVice Chairwoman of the State Duma Olga Epifanova and several parliamentariansin the Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group with Vietnam.

Nga thanked Russia for supporting Vietnam’s non-permanent membership onthe UN Security Council, hoping to continue receiving the country’s assistanceto well fulfill its working tenure.

She expressed her gratitude for Russia’s creation of favourableconditions for the Vietnamese community, and asked the Russian side to helpthem solve difficulties to stabilize their lives and contribute to thebilateral relations.

She also voiced her hope to receive the Vice Chairwoman andparliamentarians’ support for a policy on visa exemption for Vietnamesecitizens, which had been discussed by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc andChairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin during the former’s Russia visitin May.

The Vietnamese delegation is scheduled to have a working visit to Polandafter leaving Russia.-VNA
