Vietnam, Russia cooperate in developing nuclear power infrastructure

A conference to discuss Vietnam-Russia cooperation in nuclear powerinfrastructure development is taking place in Hanoi from June 23-25.

At the event, Hoang Anh Tuan, Head of the Ministryof Science and Technology’s Department of Atomic Energy, introduced thedevelopment context of nuclear power infrastructure in Vietnam.

He explained that Vietnam is in phase II of developing its nuclearpower infrastructure, according to assessments of the InternationalAtomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

IAEA also released42 recommendations for Vietnam, of which the country has satisfied sixrequirements, he said, adding that on December 11 last year, the countryalso approved a master plan on nuclear power development as advised bythe agency.

Head of the Russian delegation tothe conference Sokolov Yury from Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear EnergyCorporation hoped to study the demand for nuclear power development inVietnam and committed to supporting the country in this field.

On June 23, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanhreceived the Russian delegation, during which he affirmed that Vietnamis actively working with Russia in training human resources for nuclearpower development and pledged that his ministry would pay specialattention to boosting cooperation with Russia in the area.-VNA
