Vietnam and Russia convened their eighth annual strategic dialogue in Saint Petersburg on September 28, discussing bilateral ties and regional and global issues of shared concern.
The dialogue, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son and his Russian counterpart Igor Morgulov, was concurrent with the 65 th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
The Vietnam-Russia relationship is in its prime with commitments to strengthening cooperation across fields but particularly in economics-trade, he stated, adding that Russia has put forward initiatives connecting the Eurasian Economic Community with Vietnam as well as other ASEAN and Asian member states.
Sharing similar viewpoints on the global situation, both sides remain focused on peace, cooperation and development amid the rapid and complicated global developments.
According to them, cooperation among major countries plays a significant role in dealing with global issues of shared interest including anti-terrorism, climate change response and regional matters.
They agreed to increase mutual support at global forums, especially those in the Asia-Pacific, and to thoroughly prepare for the third ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit slated for 2016 in Russia.
During the summit, ASEAN and Russia will issue new joint declarations orienting the further development of bilateral ties.-VNA
