A delegation from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) headed by Vice President Mai Duc Chinh had a working session with President Kim Dong-Man and Secretary General Lee Jung-Sik of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) on September 15 in the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The two federations updated each other on their recent labour statistics and trade union activities as well as exchanged practices and discussed challenges facing trade union organisations in the current global context.
Accordingly, VGCL Vice President Chinh briefed the FKTU officials on tough negotiations with Vietnam’s employers to reach a 12.4 percent raise in the minimum wage next year.
Chinh hoped that the FKTU would help ensure Vietnamese workers’ rights in the RoK, particularly in terms of salary payment and workplace safety.
He also invited the FKTU to visit Vietnam in 2016.
During the talks, the two sides agreed to expand the 23-year bilateral ties and carry out interventions to protect migrant workers.
The VGCL delegation is visiting the RoK through September 17.-VNA
