Among the domestically-transmitted cases, 55 were recordedin Bac Giang, 10 in Ho Chi Minh City, four in Bac Ninh, five in Lang Son, andone in the Dong Anh facility of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Ofthem, 74 are in quarantine sites or sealed-off areas.
To date, Vietnam has documented 9,103 infections, including1,583 imported ones.
Among patients undergoing treatment, 216 tested negative forSARS-CoV-2 once, 72 twice and 75 thrice.
On the day, Vietnam recorded its 54th coronavirus death,bringing the fatality tally in the nation's latest wave to 19.
The deceased patient was a 51-year-old man from the northernprovince of Hung Yen, who had cirrhosis and toxic hepatitis.
A week before he was admitted to the hospital, the patienthad fever, fatigue and lack of appetite, among other symptoms. He was taken tothe National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on May 4, where he wasdiagnosed with blood sepsis, cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy.
On May 9, he tested positive for the coronavirus. Throughouthis treatment, his condition got worse, progressing to respiratory failure andrequired the use of ventilators on May 26. He was later diagnosed withpneumonia due to COVID-19, septic shock and complications from hepaticencephalopathy.
He was treated with numerous drugs, ventilators, ECMO andother measures, but responded poorly to treatment.
On June 7, he started to bleed through his gastric intubation,nose and mouth, suspected to be due to a breakage in his esophageal varices. Hethen went into hemorrhagic shock and passed away the same day.
His causes of death were hemorrhagic shock, septic shock,pneumonia due to COVID-19, cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy./.
