Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam attaches importance toand prioritises strengthening relations with Cambodia for the benefit of thetwo peoples, stated National Assembly (NA) Standing Vice Chairman Tran ThanhMan while receiving Secretary General of the Senate of Cambodia Oum Sarith inHanoi on April 4.

The Vietnamese NA highly appreciates Cambodia’s chairmanship of theASEAN and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) last year, which made positivecontributions to the process of building a peaceful, stable, and prosperousASEAN Community, Man said. He wished that the country will successfully hostthe 32nd Southeast Asian Games in May.

The official went on to express his delight at the growingcooperation and ties between the nations, their regular exchange of delegations andpeople-to-people exchanges, and good outcomes of their bilateral collaborationmechanisms.

He vowed that the Vietnamese NA will make every effort together withthe Cambodian Senate to continue to strengthen cooperation,information exchange, and sharing of professional experiences, especially inthe field of law making, supervision and decision-making on important matters.Man hoped the two legislative bodies will continue to unite and support eachother at international forums.

The Vietnamese NA is about to host the ninth Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, he said, proposing theCambodian Senate send a delegation to attend the event.

For his part, Oum Sarith lauded the friendship andcooperation shared between the countries and their law-making bodies, and thankedthe support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for Cambodia.

Highlighting that the Cambodian people never forget and aregrateful to Vietnamese voluntary soldiers who helped Cambodia overthrow the Pol Pot genocidalregime, the Secretary General said he hopes the two parliaments, governmentsand peoples continue to strengthen their solidarity and mutual assistance inthe time to come./.
