Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC)has made positive contributions to protecting national interests and promoting Vietnam’simages, heard a conference in Hanoi on December 22 to review the committee’s work2017 and outline tasks for 2018.

Speaking at the event, National Assembly Vice Chairman andVPC Chairman Uong Chu Luu said the committee successfully hosted the Congressof the World Peace Council (WPC) Executive Committee in Hanoi this year,contributing to realising the Party and State’s policies of diversification andmultilateralisation of ties and improving the VPC’s stature within the WPCframework.

On bilateral ties, the VPC fostered ties with neighbouringcountries and worked with partners from Japan, the Republic of Korea,Bangladesh, India and Czech Republic in multilateral people-to-peopleactivities.

In coordination with the Vietnam Peace and DevelopmentFoundation, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics’ Research Institutefor Human Rights and Germany’s RosaLuxumberg Stiftung, the VPC successfully held the international seminarentitled “The role of peace in promoting and protecting human rights”.

Next year, the VPC will further enhance multilateraldiplomatic activities and extend solidarity, friendship and mutualunderstanding between Vietnamese and world people, he said.

Discussing tasks for 2018, participants agreed to furtherincrease ties with traditional partners and expand relations with those fromAsia and Latin America, responsibly and effectively join activities of the WPCand multilateral people-to-people forums.

The VPC is expected to successfully hold its Congress forthe 2018-2023 tenure, increase activities at the central and local levels,raise awareness of the public, especially young generations, of peace andrelated activities, as well as conduct studies on peace and human rightsissues.-VNA
