Vietnam opposes Taiwan’s live-fire drill around Ba Binh Island

Vietnam resolutely protests against Taiwan (China)’s live-fire exercise around Ba Binh (Itu Aba) island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, demanding that it refrain from such actions in the future, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam resolutely protests against Taiwan(China)’s live-fire exercise around Ba Binh (Itu Aba) island in Vietnam’sTruong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, demanding that it refrain from such actions inthe future, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hang made the statement while fielding questions fromreporters on the issue on March 21.

The diplomat elaborated that Vietnam has sufficient legalbasis and historic evidence affirming its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel)and Truong Sa archipelagos in accordance with international law.

Taiwan’s continuation of live-fire drills in the waters surroundingBa Binh island in Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago, despite Vietnam’s opposition,is a serious violation of Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty over thearchipelago, posing a threat to peace, stability, and maritime security andsafety, as well as causing tension and complicating the situation in the EastSea, she stressed. –VNA
