The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) marked the five-year operation of its Chinese-language news service on September 25.

Addressing the ceremony, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education and permanent deputy head of the Steering Committee for External Information Service Pham Van Linh said the Chinese news service has contributed to promoting news services for foreign audience of the country and of the VNA in particular.

Chinese Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong took the occasion to express his hope that the Chinese and Vietnamese media will continue covering the development and outcomes of bilateral ties for the sake of the two peoples.

VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi, for his part, praised the Chinese-language staff for serving as a bridge fostering the Vietnam – China traditional friendship.

The Chinese news service has fulfilled its mission as a provider of source news to the press and audiences at home and abroad, he said, urging the staff for news services in Chinese and other languages of the VNA to keep improving news quality to better serve audiences in the future.

Officially launched on September 28, 2010 on VNA’s website vnanet.vn and the agency’s online newspaper www.vietnamplus.vn , the Chinese-language news service covers the latest socio-economic developments of Vietnam and gives readers an insight into the country reform.

The service is intended to popularise Vietnam’s external policy of peace, independence, diversification and multilateralisation as well as the country’s consistent policy of bolstering stable, healthy and long-term relations with China, and joining hand with China to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Following the online news services, the VNA began broadcasting a daily Chinese-language news programme on its own TV channel – VNews, on August 1, 2011. Starting from 10 minutes on the first day, the programme now lasts 15 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, and 20 minutes on Sundays.

Besides the Chinese-language news, the VNA runs news services in English, French and Spanish both online and on its VNews TV channel.-VNA
