Lieutenant General Giang, who is also Chiefof the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), highlighted effective engagementsbetween the two armies in line with their memorandum of understanding ondefence cooperation signed in 2013 and the two countries’ comprehensivepartnership.
He recommended the sides boost furtherexchanges of delegations and experience on UN peacekeeping missions.
Major General Kelly said his current visitto Vietnam helps him understand more about the country, its people and somearmy units.
He said he wants the two armies to extend joint work in human resources training, marine security cooperation, disaster aid and UNpeacekeeping missions.
The same day, Kelly and Deputy Chief of theVPA’s General Staff Pham Ngoc Minh held talks and had a working visit to the commandohigh command and Vietnam peacekeeping centre.-VNA
