This isthe first visit made by a delegation of Vietnamese high-ranking militaryofficials since the Vietnamese Embassy was opened in Mozambique in2009.
During their stay, the Vietnameseofficials attended meetings with the Deputy Minister of National DefencePatricio Jose and other senior officials to discuss cooperation betweenthe two nations’ armies.
The hosts expressed their admiration for Vietnam’s historic efforts in defence and nation-building.
They spoke highly of the support the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) hasprovided in terms of tactics and strategy, training and skillsdevelopment, and infrastructure facilities.
Senior Lieutenant General Vo Tien Trung reiterated the friendship andcooperation between the two peoples and armies forces, saying thatVietnam was keen to share its experience with traditional nations.
He briefed his host on the East Sea issue, as well as the consistentpolicies of the State and the VPA in protecting territorial integrityand sovereignty.
The delegation also met up withthe Director of the Mozambique Institute for National Defence Studies,Daniel Frazao Chale, to talk about educational exchange programmes. Theyvisited the Frelimo Party’s Headquarters and met with the Secretary ofthe Party’s Committee Jose Augusto Tomo Psico.
The VPA and the Army of Mozambique established their close cooperation in 1975.
In March, 2011, the two defence ministries signed a Memorandum ofUnderstanding on cooperation during the Mozambican Defence Minister’svisit to Vietnam.
The two nations also organised an exchange for their military attaches in 2011.-VNA
