Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam may get the green light to export fresh longansto Australia from 2019, after lychees, mangoes and dragon fruits.

The information was revealed on the occasion of a workingvisit made by a delegation of the Australian Department of Agriculture andWater Resources to northern Hung Yen province and southern Ben Tre province toexamine the longan farming, processing and packaging process there.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, after thisvisit, the Australian ministry will have an assessment report and draft importrequirements for the product.

This is good news for Vietnam’s fruit sector as Vietnamesefruits can be sold at high prices in Australia.

Last year, fruit and vegetable exports set a record of 3.5billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 40 percent. Vietnamese fruits andvegetables are sold in 40 countries and territories around the world.

The delegation from Australia’s Ministry of Agriculture and WaterResources is visiting Vietnam from February 26 to March 2 to inspect theprocessing chain for shrimps exported to Australia. -VNA
