Addressing the event, DeputyDirector General of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry Nguyen BaNgai called on individuals and organisations to cope with climate changeand desertification by planting and protecting trees.
Participants and volunteers planted about 2,000 trees along the Bau Trang sand dune.
Vietnam currently has more than 9 million hectares of barren land,accounting for 28 percent of the country’s total land area, of which 7.5million hectares are affected directly by desertification.
Binh Thuan is one of the provinces most heavily affected bydesertification, especially in coastal localities. To deal with theissue, the province has made efforts to increase forest coverage.-VNA
