Vietnam legislature delighted with ties with Singapore

Hanoi (VNA) – NationalAssembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has expressed her delight at the robustand effective development of bilateral ties with Singapore via the Party,State, National Assembly and government channels over the past years.

During a meeting with SingaporeanPrime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Hanoi on March 23, she lauded the regularexchange of all-level visits and cooperation between the two legislatures onbilateral and multilateral aspects, saying that both sides have facilitatedvisits by parliament leaders and members of specialised committees to increasepolitical ties, mutual understanding and professional experience.

Informing the guest that the 14th Vietnamese National Assembly established the Vietnam-Singapore FriendshipParliamentarians’ Group in November 2016, the host expressed her wish thatSingapore would set up a Singapore-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Groupto serve as a bridge connecting the two legislatures.

According to her, bilateralconnections across trade, investment, national defence-security, culture, andpeople-to-people exchange have thrived, notably the Vietnam-SingaporeIndustrial Park (VSIP) which has become a symbol of successful andmutually-beneficial cooperation between the two nations.

She said she is satisfied with theeffective bilateral collaboration in education, tourism and people-to-peopleexchange, noting that 12,000 Vietnamese nationals living in Singapore are helpingstep up the two countries’ ties.

On ASEAN coordination, the toplegislator said the two countries should actively increase solidarity andexchange, as well as the bloc’s central role and its pro-activeness in regionalissues, contributing to creating an environment of peace, stability andcooperation.

Singaporean PM Lee, for his part,informed the host of the outcomes of his talks with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, sayingthat both sides witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements on electricityand the construction of additional VSIP, among others.

He believed that the two nations holdhuge potential for economic cooperation and exchanges between the twolegislatures will continue bringing practical benefits.

On the occasion, the guest alsovisited the Vietnam National Assembly House.
