Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Natural Resourcesand Environment Nguyen Xuan Cuong called on the people to make theenvironment healthier and cleaner with such practical deeds as cleaningstreets, planting trees and protecting water resources.
Present at the event were representatives of the Australian Embassy,the UNDP, UNEP, IUCN, WWF, the Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment, the Vietnam Union of Scientific and TechnologicalAssociations and Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee.
Following the launch ceremony, the participants joined local people inplanting trees and collecting rubbish at a park and the Me Quangresettlement area in Viet Tri city.
Earlier on September 19, the authorities of the Mekong Delta provinceof An Giang and the Vietnam Peasants’ Association also launchedactivities in response to the Clean Up the World campaign.
The Clean Up the World campaign was started by one Australian, Mr. IanKiernan, in 1989. This year over 35 million people in 120 countrieswill take part in the campaign./.
