Vietnam, Laos seek to step up labour cooperation

Da Nang (VNA) –The fifthVietnam-Laos Ministerial Conference on Cooperation in Labour and Social Welfarewas held in Vietnam’s central province of Da Nang on August 4.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Minister ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung underscored the pragmatic andeffective cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in all fields, including theaffiliation between the Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam (MoLISA) and the Ministry ofLabour and Social Affairs of Laos (MLSA).

He appreciatedthe Lao side’s coordination in accepting Vietnamese labourers to work forprojects in Laos as well as the affiliation between the two ministries in openingan orthopaedics and rehabilitation centre in Can village, Vientiane, Laos, inDecember 2015.

Dung alsotalked about the MoLISA’s scholarships in labour and social welfare for the Laoside, their delegation exchanges, and cooperation in human resources development,especially in border areas.

The Vietnameseminister thanked the MLSA and other relevant agencies of Laos for their closecoordination in searching remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers whosacrificed their lives in Laos, saying he hopes that the two sides will furthertheir cooperation through the exchange of delegations and experience, andpersonnel training.

Dung views wereechoed by his Lao counterpart Khampheng Saysompheng, who said that thepartnership between the two ministries should be deepened across fields.

Under theminutes of the fifth Vietnam-LaosMinisterial Conference on Cooperation in Labour and Social Welfare, the twosides agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos labourcooperation agreement inked in 2013.

They will also coordinate with the twocountries’ defence ministries and concerned agencies to repatriate the remainsof Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts as well as Lao soldiers who diedduring the war in Vietnam.

At the same times, the two sides willintensify experience sharing and continue their cooperation in personneltraining.

Thesixth conference will be held in Laos in 2019.-VNA
