Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos havecommitted to enhancing cooperation in fighting transnational crimes in allforms, especially drug crime, human trafficking, smuggling, terrorism andhigh-tech crime.

Vietnamese Minister of Public Security General To Lam,Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Samdech KrolahomSar Kheng and Lao Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamphong metvirtually on January 5.

The ministers agreed to step up the exchange of informationand coordination in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseasesand natural disasters in border provinces.

The three countries will also strengthen cooperationat regional and international forums, and tighten collaboration in ensuring security toserve major national and international events to be organised in each country.

In his remarks, Lam highlighted comprehensive cooperationbetween police and law enforcement forces of the three countries, as well asthe effective collaboration between public security forces of their border citiesand provinces.

He suggested that the ministries should considercooperation in national defence and security a pillar in relations betweenthe three countries, further coordination in implementing Vietnam-Laos andVietnam-Cambodia agreements, and enhance information sharing.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers signed ajoint statement, and reiterated their commitments to boosting bilateral andtripartite security cooperation./.
