Hanoi (VNA) – VietnameseDeputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highlighted the crucial role of energycooperation with Laos during a reception in Hanoi on February 18 for LaoMinister of Energyand Mines Khammany Inthirath.

Dung lauded the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade andthe Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines for their active negotiations on anagreement on the development of hydropower projects, renewable energy andmining for signing at an earliest time.

He noted that Vietnam consistently opposes energy projectsthat harm the environment, and suggested that both countries should early builda mechanism to closely monitor the construction of irrigation and hydropowerworks in border areas.

Inthirath said he had held working sessions with the Ministryof Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Electricity, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group(PetroVietnam) to realise the two governments’ agreements on hydropowerdevelopment in Laos, and power purchase.

Both sides reached consensus on several major projects toreport to leaders for the early signing, he said.

The Lao minister committed all possible support to Lao andVietnamese firms to cooperate together closely and effectively, especially in thefields of energy and mining.-VNA
