Vietnam, Indonesia look to boost health, economic, tourism cooperation

Jakarta (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia, incollaboration with the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association, held a webinaron health, economic and tourism cooperation and policy recommendations for thetwo countries amidst the COVID-19 pandemic on November 8.

Present the event were Indonesian Minister of Tourism andCreative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Governor of Bali province Wayan Koster,Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi, First Executive Secretary of the IndonesianCommittee for the COVID-19 Response and National Economic Recovery RadenPardede, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration ofTourism Ha Van Sieu, and Chairperson of the Indonesia - Vietnam FriendshipAssociation Budiarsa Sastrawinata, together with nearly 150 delegates from ministries,sectors and businesses of the two countries.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang said thatboth Vietnam and Indonesia are emerging from recent waves of COVID-19 outbreaks,pursuing a strategy of living with COVID-19 and focusing on accelerating post-pandemiceconomic recovery.

At the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits in late October,Vietnam, Indonesia and other ASEAN members approved the ASEAN ComprehensiveRecovery Framework (ACRF) to orient a common strategy to overcome the pandemic.

In this context, the Vietnamese diplomat proposed the twonations intensify cooperation in fighting the pandemic, improve communitymedical capacity and social welfare, and get ready to respond to futurechallenges.

For his part, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdireaffirmed that the two countries are strong partners in the fields ofeconomics and development. Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth largest economicpartner in ASEAN and its ninth largest export market. The two countriescurrently account for about 60 percent of ASEAN's population and 45 percent oftotal GDP of ASEAN.

The two countries still hold much potential for cooperation,especially in fisheries, high technology and digital economy.

Minister Sandiaga Uno proposed the tourism industry should havestrategic orientations, and quickly innovate to adapt to uncertain, complex andunclear changes like./.
