Hanoi(VNA) – Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communication and India’s Ministry of Communications have jointly issued a set of commemorativepostage stamps featuring ancient architecture of both nations.
The release is part of activities to mark the 45th foundinganniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties, 10 years since their Strategic Partnershipand one year of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The set of stamps includes two templates designed by artists from bothcountries, introducing India’s Buddhist monument Sanchi Stupa and Vietnam’sPho Minh pagoda.
Speaking at the release event in New Delhi on January 25, Secretary ofthe Indian Department of Posts A N Nanda highlighted the significance of theevent, saying that the first ever joint issue ofcommemorative postage stamps on the theme of “ancient architecture” is a symbolof the strong friendship between the two countries.
Bilateral relations have improved thanks to strong trust between the twonations, as well as their common views of international issues and security inAsia, he stressed.
Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan saidVietnam and India are witnessing flourishing relations in politics, diplomacy, economy,trading, defence-security, energy, culture, education and technology andpeople-to-people exchange.
He said there are many new drivers for the development of the Comprehensive StrategicPartnership between the two nations.
Pho Minh pagoda is located in the northern province of Nam Dinh. The 20-metretower pagoda was built in the Ly Dynasty (1009-1225) and was expanded in 1262.It includes 14 storeys, which were carved into the shape of flowers, waves and clouds.
Sanchi Stupa is the oldest stone structure in India and was originallycommissioned by the emperor Ashoka the Great in the 3rd century BC. Its nucleuswas a simple hemispherical brick structure built over the relics of the Buddha.
The Posts of Vietnam and India each will print 500,000 national postal stampsand 500,000 international postage stamps from the set of stamp templates.-VNA
