Hanoi (VNA)– A training course on UN peacekeeping for staff officers funded by the Global PeaceOperations Initiative (GPOI) opened at the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre in suburbanThach That district, Hanoi on June 21.
The three-week course drew the participation of24 officers, including those from partner countries of GPOI – Cambodia,Indonesia and Mongolia.
They are working as managers and planners for thepreparation and deployment of individuals and units to UN peacekeepingoperations, and those who are planned to perform duty in UN peacekeepingmissions.
In his opening speech, Lt. Gen. Pham Hong Huong, Deputy Chief of the GeneralStaff of the Vietnam People’s Army, said the course aims to prepare forces foreffectively joining UN peacekeeping activities, contributing toimplementing Vietnam’s consistent external policy of peace, cooperation anddevelopment, multilateralisation and diversification of relations. Vietnam is arealiable friend and partner and a responsible member of the global community,he stressed.
The course is hoped to equip officers with professionalknowledge, skills and experience, contributing to improving peacekeeping work forVietnamese officers.-VNA
