Vietnam hosts ASEAN+3 junior science event for first time
Talented students, teachers and observers are taking part in the ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey which is underway in Vietnam for the first time with the theme “Renewable Energy For Life”.

Hanoi (VNA) – Talented students, teachers andobservers are taking part in the sixth ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey(APT JSO-6) which is underway in Vietnam for the first time with the theme“Renewable Energy For Life”.
The event opened in Hanoi on July 11 in celebration ofthe 50th anniversary of ASEAN this year.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Science andTechnology Tran Quoc Khanh said this year’s theme “Renewable Energy for Life”demonstrates that the development of renewable energy is essential to ensure energysecurity, protect the environment, cope with climate change and improve publichealth.
It is among the ASEAN Plus Three for the Gifted in Science(ACGS)’s annual event to encourage and nurture gifted students in the field ofscience and technology, he added.
The event attracts about 180 students, teachers andobservers from ten ASEAN countries and its three partner countries, and Sweden.
It also provides the students with a chance toparticipate in competitions in physics, chemistry, and biology; and conductresearch and cultivate creativity via poster presentations and lab skillsassessment while the teachers will share experience in education for the giftedin science and attend a workshop on promoting STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering, and Mathematics) for students through applications of renewableenergy.
According to a report by the International Energy Agency,the Southeast Asia’s energy demand will grow by more than 80 percent by 2035.Therefore, deploying renewable energy is strategically significant to deal withthe region’s power shortage.-VNA
