Vietnam hopes to boost all-round ties with Russia

Vietnam is determined to continue strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperation with Russia, especially in politics, economy-trade, investment, security-defence, education-training, science-technology and culture-tourism, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed.

Havana (VNA) – Vietnamis determined to continue strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperationwith Russia, especially in politics, economy-trade, investment,security-defence, education-training, science-technology and culture-tourism,National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed.

TheVietnamese top legislator made the statement during a meeting with Speaker of Russia's StateDuma Vyateslav Volodin on November 30 in Havana, Cuba, where she wasthere to attend the funeral of Cuba’s revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz.

The two sides highlighted theeffective and practical cooperation between the two legislative bodies, sayingthat the two sides have regularlymaintained dialogue mechanisms and close coordination at internationalparliament forums like the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU),the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA),and the Asia-EuropeParliamentary Partnership (ASEP) Meeting.

NA ChairwomanNgan suggest theRussian side accelerate the signing of an agreement on food safety control, thusmaking it easy for Vietnam to expand export of farm and aquatic products to theRussian market.

She also called for more support of Russia's StateDuma for the Vietnamese community in the country.

For his part, Vyateslav Volodinassured that his country considers Vietnam as its leading partner in SoutheastAsia and hopes to step up the traditional friendship and comprehensivecooperation between the two nations.

The legislators agreed to backmeasures bolstering the bilateral relations, and the implementation of theVietnam –Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, which took effectin October, 2016 towards lifting two-way trade to 10 billion USD by 2020.

They also underlined the need to perfectthe regulatory framework for bilateral cooperation, and enhance connectivityamong the two countries’ localities in the future.

Speakerof Russia's StateDuma Vyateslav Volodin took the occasion to invite NA ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan to attend the IPU GeneralAssembly in October 2017 in his country. 

On the same day, Ngan and theVietnamese delegation laid a wreath in the Ho Chi Minh monument in Havana.-VNA
