Vietnam hands over tanker to Dutch partner

The Song Thu Corporation under the Ministry of Defence delivered a tanker to its Dutch partner Damen Shipyards Group in the central city of Da Nang on March 17.

The Tanker Mowamba,equipped with two Caterpillar diesel engines, measures 54 metres inlength and 12 metres in width. It is capable of storing 800 cubic metresof oil and can travel at a speed of 10 nautical miles per hour.

The 1,500-horsepower ship is dedicated to catering for port and coastal services.

Its construction was started in December 2012 under a contract between the two enterprises in September 2011.-VNA
