Vietnam-funded guard headquarters inaugurated in Cambodia

The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have inaugurated its new headquarters in Takeo province, which was built with funding from the Vietnam Defence Ministry.

In his address at the inauguralceremony on January 17, General Moeung Samphan, Secretary of State ofthe Cambodia Defence Ministry, said along with a series of projectsconstructed with financial assistance from the Vietnam Defence Ministrywhich were put into use recently, the new building is seen as a vividmanifestation of the close cooperation and valuable aid the VietnamPeople’s Army given to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

GeneralMoeung Samphan recalled the ceremony to commemorate the 36th anniversaryof the historical victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime onJanuary 7 held by the Cambodian government, and stressed the help andsacrifice of the Vietnamese voluntary soldiers to the country’s peaceand development.

He also highlighted the great support fromVietnam to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, noting that the process ofreforming and modernising the army in recent years cannot spare the helpand close cooperation from the Vietnam People’s Army.

Work on the new facility commenced in late 2013 at a total cost ofnearly 600,000 USD, including the construction and installation ofspecialised equipment.

This funding is part ofaid package for basic construction the Vietnam Defence Ministry hasprovided for its Cambodian counterpart.-VNA
