Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamesefirms ship an annual average of about 0.8 million tonnes of fertiliser overseas, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Key markets for the products includethe Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and the Republic of Korea.
However, exports make up just about afourth of the four million tonnes Vietnam imports on a yearly basis, mostlykali and SA fertilisers, which it is incapable of producing itself. Almost halfof the imports come from China.
Fertiliser manufacturing hasencountered difficulties in recent years with fertiliser prices falling due tooversupply. In 2016, droughts and saline intrusion in the south harmedagricultural production, driving down demand even further.
In addition, tougher competition fromChina and ASEAN countries, as well as fake and poor-quality products have hurt localfertiliser producers.-VNA
