Vietnam-EU defence cooperation effective: minister

Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang said on June 15 that Vietnam and the EU have effectively cooperated in defence, in line with the Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement (PCA), the agreement between Vietnam and the EU on the establishment of a framework for Vietnam’s participation in crisis management activities of the EU (FPA).

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of National Defence GeneralPhan Van Giang said on June 15 that Vietnam and the EU have effectively cooperated in defence, in line with the Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement (PCA), and the agreement between Vietnam and the EU on the establishment of a framework for Vietnam’s participation in crisis management activities of the EU (FPA).

The minister made the remarks during his reception for Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti, head of theEuropean Union (EU) Delegation to Vietnam who came to say goodbye before endinghis working term in Vietnam.

Congratulated Giorgio Aliberti on his successful working term inVietnam, Giang highlyappreciated the impressive results of defence cooperation between the twosides, particularly the dialogue on defence and security, training, UNpeacekeeping, and assistance in overcoming the consequences of war. 

For his part, Ambassador Aliberti highly appreciated the close cooperationbetween Vietnam and the EU, affirming that their relationship has developedvery strongly, and there is more potential for further development.

He cited as example the EU's cooperation with Vietnam in COVID-19 prevention and control, and support of Vietnam's participation in UN peacekeeping activities.

MinisterGiang believes that in his new position, the Ambassador will continue toachieve many successes, contributing to promoting the cooperative relationshipbetween the EU and Vietnam, for peace, stability, cooperation, and commondevelopment of the region and the world./.
