Hanoi (VNA) – With no new COVID-19 cases recorded on October 16morning, Vietnam has now entered 44th day without a single community infection,according to report from the National Steering Committee for COVID-19Prevention and Control.
The country has documented 1,124 SARs-CoV-2 infections so far.
Of the total, 691 were infected with the virus domestically, including 551linked with Da Nang city since the latest coronavirus wave began there on July25.
As many as 1,030 patients have recovered while 35 have died from complicationsrelated to the disease. Most of the fatalities were the elderly with seriousunderlying health conditions.
Among the patients still under treatment, eight have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2once, five twice and 12 thrice. Currently, there is no patient in criticalconditions.
There are 13,386 people having close contact with confirmed cases or comingfrom pandemic-hit regions under quarantine at present, including 154 inhospitals, 12.029 in concentrated quarantine sites, and 1,203 at home oraccommodation facilities.
The COVID-19 pandemic may last until the end of 2021 as no vaccine has beenready so far, according to the World Health Organisation./.
