Vietnam, Egypt hold eighth political consultation

At the event, Nam and Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Yasser Murad discussed measuresto foster bilateral ties in numerous fields, in the hope of raisingtwo-way trade from nearly 400 million USD in 2014 to 1 billion USD inthe near future.

Nam spoke of the position androle of Egypt in the Middle East and North Africa, and its globalinfluence, affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance todeveloping its multi-faceted cooperation with the country, which itconsiders one of its biggest partners in the region.

The two countries should intensify investment in agriculture, aquaticfarming and processing, oil and gas, telecommunications, tourism andhealth, he suggested.

He also proposed thatEgypt grant its Halal certification to facilitate the export ofVietnamese meat products to Muslim nations.

Yasser Murad, in turn, praised Vietnam’s economic development andrequested that Vietnamese enterprises increase their investments inEgypt’s advantageous fields of oil and gas and telecommunications.

Egypt wants to receive Vietnam’s support for its signing of a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN, he added.

Both sides also exchanged opinions on regional and internationalissues of mutual concern, pledging to coordinate and support each otherat international forums.

During his visit, theVietnamese official also met with Minister of International CooperationNaglaa El Ehwany, during which he expressed his hope that the Egyptianministry will exert more effort to boost bilateral economic exchanges.

He suggested the two countries speed up theexchange of technical delegations to soon realise previously signedagreements.

The host confirmed that the twocountries’ fifth joint committee will be held in Hanoi shortly to reviewand sign several cooperation agreements on banking and insurance inorder to create a legal foundation for economic and investmentcooperation.-VNA
