Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-Cuba solidarity is considered a modelfor international relations, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera hastold Vietnam News Agency.
She said that historical backgrounds and mutual support atevery time have formed the special relationship between the two countries, withthem setting up diplomatic ties on December 2, 1960.
Vietnam always backs Cuba in the struggle against economicand trade embargo imposed by the US over nearly 60 years, and Party GeneralSecretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong called for the removal ofunilateral sanctions that hinder countries’ development, especially the besiegeand embargo against Cuba, at the UN General Assembly’s recent 75th session, she highlighted.
Based on the special political ties, the Cuban diplomatsuggested expanding bilateral cooperation to economics and trade.
According to her, both sides also hold great potential forcooperation in tourism, pharmaceuticals, culture, agriculture, food industryand energy.
Cuba is willing to assist the Vietnamese business communityin seeking collaboration opportunities in its market and carry out investmentprojects.
She went on to say that the Cuban Government is continuouslyimproving its business environment, with the focus on completing legalmechanisms to attract more foreign investments, including the establishment ofthe single-window mechanism for investors.
With the Vietnam-Cuba Free Trade Agreementbecoming effective in April, both countries are expecting 500 million USD intwo-way trade turnover by 2025, she added./.
