Havana (VNA) – First Secretary of the CommunistParty of Cuba’s Central Committee Raul Castro Ruz, and President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel attended the inauguration of a Vietnam-CubaFriendship School in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba on April 23.
The facility isthe second of its kind in Cuba, recruiting children with disabilities in fiveeastern localities of Cuba. The first school in Havana has become operationalsince the beginning of this year.
Addressing theinauguration ceremony, Vice President of the Cuba Council of State and President of the ProvincialAssembly of the People's Power in Santiago de Cuba Beatriz Johnsonunderscored that the construction of the special school for children with disabilitiesis also a wish of late Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
The school is located inVilla Elvira building in Boniato ward of Santiago city, one of the buildingsrecognised as national architectural heritage of Cuba.
So far, 120 children haveregistered to study in the school, 78 of them will be boarding students.
Like general education,special education for children with disabilities is free in Cuba, as are healthcare, meal and accommodation services.-VNA
