Vietnam-Cuba hospital, a highlight in bilateral healthcare cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) -
The Vietnam-Cuba friendshiphospitals in Hanoi and the central province of Quang Binh are a symbol of the closefriendship and cooperation in healthcare between Vietnam and Cuba.

In September 1973, during a visit toQuang Tri and Quang Binh provinces, President Fidel Castro decided to giveQuang Binh a spacious and modern hospital to serve local people and injuredsoldiers.

The construction of the hospital began on May 19, 1974 and it was put intooperation on September 9, 1981 with nearly 500 beds.

Doctor Duong Thanh Binh, Director of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital inDong Hoi, Quang Binh, recalled late President Fidel Castro was among the first foreignleaders to visit the liberated zone in South Vietnam.

”The hospital is a valuable gift, a symbol of friendship and solidarity betweenVietnam and Cuba,” he said.

The Cuban Health Ministry has sent three experienced doctors who have expertisein tumour surgery, traumatology and cardiovascular intervention to help doctorsin the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi in technological transferand treatment.

Doctor Piter Marti’nez Beni’tez, in the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital inDong Hoi, expressed his hope that in the future, there will be moreCuban experts in other fields to come to Vietnam while Vietnamese doctors willvisit Cuba for experience sharing.

The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Hanoi was put into operation in June1969, specialised in otorhinolaryngology and odonto-stomatology.

The hospital is equipped with modern facilities and has conducted toothimplants and treatment of malignant facial tumors.

Nguyen Dinh Phuc, Director of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital inHanoi wished that more Cuban doctors would come to cooperate with doctors inthe Vietnam-Cuba friendship hospitals.

The Vietnam-Cuba friendship hospitalsin Hanoi and Quang Binh province are a valuable gift that Cuba has given to theVietnamese people and a beautiful symbol of the solidarity and friendshipbetween Vietnam and Cuba.-VNA
