Vietnam congratulates Indonesia on Independence Day

President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 17 extended congratulations to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day (August 17, 1945).
Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran DaiQuang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 17 extended congratulationsto Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia’sIndependence Day (August 17, 1945).

The same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinhcabled a congratulatory message to her Indonesian counterpart Jusuf Kalla.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister andForeign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent his congratulations to Indonesia’sMinister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomaticties at the consular level on December 30, 1955, and upgraded it to theambassadorial level a decade later. In 2003, both sides signed a comprehensivepartnership agreement. 

They agreed to elevate bilateral ties tostrategic partnership in September 2011, which was realised in June 2013. InOctober 2013, the two countries’ foreign ministers inked an action plan toimplement Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership for 2014-2018.-VNA
