Vietnam conditionally approves Hayat-Vax for emergency use

The Ministry of Health on September 10 issued a decision on conditionally approving the Hayat-Vax vaccine for emergency use in COVID-19 prevention and control, making it the seventh COVID-19 vaccine obtaining a licence for emergency use in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Health on September 10 issued adecision on conditionally approving the Hayat-Vax vaccine for emergency usein COVID-19 prevention and control, making it the seventh COVID-19 vaccine obtaining a licencefor emergency use in Vietnam.

Accordingly, the Hayat - Vax vaccine is semi-finished by theBeijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd. of China National BiotecGroup Company Limited (CNBG).

This vaccine is packaged and delivered from Julphar (GulfPharmaceutical Industries) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In Vietnam, Vimedimex Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company hadproposed for the approval of this vaccine.

Hayat-Vax is an inactivated vaccine, produced bygrowing the SARS-CoV-2 in cell culture and then using chemicals to inactivatethe virus.

The ministry asked the Drug Administration of Vietnam tolicense the import of the vaccine and abide by regulations on the management ofimport and the quality of imported vaccines.

Meanwhile, the Administration of Science Technology andTraining will select and guide qualified units to assess the vaccine's safetyand efficacy based on advice from the advisory council on use of vaccines andbiologicals.

The General Department of Preventive Medicine is responsiblefor conducting vaccination using Hayat-Vax. The ministry also assigned theNational Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biologicals to conduct checks andgrant certificates for batches of the vaccine before use.

At present, there are seven foreign COVID-19 vaccines thathave obtained a license for emergency use in Vietnam, namely AstraZeneca by AstraZeneca, Vero Cell by China National Biotec Group (CNBG)/Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Pfizer,Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, and Hayat-Vax./.
