Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam takes the matter of saving energy and resources and protectingthe environment serious, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said whilereceiving Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) FrankRijsberman in Hanoi on January 23.

Green growth is aneed and a must of all nations in the world, Dung said, affirming that Vietnamis accelerating economic restructuring, and reforming its growth model in anintensive, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendlymanner.

“Vietnam does notwait until being rich to care about green development,” the Deputy PMreiterated.

He stressed the needfor a legal framework and joint efforts of all people for green growth, addingthat the work needs huge resources which are beyond affordability of developingnations.

Dung acknowledgedand spoke highly of the assistance the GGGI has provided for Vietnam indeveloping and implementing its Green Growth Strategy.

He called on theinstitute to continue its support for Vietnam in developing legal framework, studyingto enhance management, promoting communications work to raise awareness ofgrowth green, and sharing information and knowledge of green growth.

He urged the GGGI tohelp train and develop human resources, include green growth in socio-economicdevelopment plan; analyse the feasibility of evaluating tools of Vietnam’sgreen growth and piloting them in several provinces, cities, and key sectors.

Sharing Dung’s views,the GGGI Director General said green growth has become a priority of manynations, including Vietnam, adding that shifting towards green growth alsocreates opportunities for the nations to develop renewable energy, transport,and green construction.

He extended histhanks to the Government, ministries, sectors and localities of Vietnam fortheir support and close cooperation with the GGGI representative office inVietnam in implementing green growth strategy in the finance, water and urbansectors.

GGGI has helped trainover 100 officials from ministries, sectors and localities, develop urban greengrowth, draft the national Strategy on green growth and facilitate green growthprojects.-VNA
