According to its report, the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard offered advice to the Military Commission and Ministry of National Defence on sea-related policies; sea and island sovereignty protection; prevention of smuggling, trade fraud and drug trafficking; and search and rescue during the previous tenure.

It also built the Coast Guard into a disciplined and modern force with Party units working transparently and healthily.

Among its goals for the 2015-2020 tenure, the Committee hopes to improve its working performance, contributing to safeguarding sovereignty, sovereignty and jurisdiction rights, security, safety and national interests at sea.

It will focus its efforts on developing a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern force with improved professionalism and preparedness for fighting while strengthening its political mindset and organisation.

The drive to study and follow the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh among Party members and officers will also continue.

Speaking at the event, Cung asked the Coast Guard to stay vigilant, effectively and flexibly deal with contingencies at sea, crack down on crimes and raise fishermen awareness of Vietnamese and international law.
