Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh has affirmed Vietnam’s defence policy of peace, self-defence, and neither joining any military alliances nor allowing any countries to set up their military bases or use its territory to counter the others.
General Thanh made the statement at a reception for Major General Li Shengquan from National Defence University of the People’s Liberation Army of China in Hanoi on October 22, during which he also reiterated Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of multilateralisation and cooperation for peace, stability and development.
Vietnam attaches special importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, he stressed.
He expressed his hope that the Major General’s visit will contribute to enhancing relations between the two countries’ armies and peoples.
Hailing the defence ties between the two countries over the past years, General Thanh suggested the two sides accelerate cooperative activities they agreed upon for the interest of the two countries’ peoples, and for peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
In reply, Li noted his hope that the defence ties will be consolidated in the time ahead with increased defence diplomatic activities, delegation exchanges and affiliation in officer training.-VNA
