Hanoi (VNA) – Medical officers of Vietnam and China are joining a medicalexamination for people in border areas of the two countries, as part of thefifth Vietnam-China border defence friendship exchange programme.

The firstround of examination is underway in Hoa Thuan township of Vietnam’s northernborder province of Cao Bang until August 24, while the second one in LongzhouCounty in China’s Guangzi Zhuang Autonomous Region is slated for August 26-28.

The programmeis organised by the Army Medical Department under the General Department ofLogistics of the Vietnamese Defence Ministry of Defence, along with the HealthDepartment under the Logistic Support Department of the Central MilitaryCommission of China, and local authorities.

Speakingat the opening ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Xuan Kien, head of the Vietnamese ArmyMedical Department, stressed that the activity aims to disseminate health careknowledge as well as provide medical examination and treatment for peopleliving in border regions of Vietnam and China.

It also offerschances for medical officers of the two countries to share experience, improvetheir skills and enhance friendship.

Participantswill be able to understand more about the traditional cultures of the twonations and lifestyle of ethnic groups living in border areas in particular,Kien added.

For hispart, Major General Ji Jianhua, deputyhead of the Chinese Health Department, said the joint activity is the first torealise the two countries’ medical logistics cooperation outside their border.-VNA
