Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Deputy PrimeMinister Men Sam An has highlighted the significance of the state visit byParty General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, voicing her belief forthe strengthened development of the two countries’ relations.

The official – who is also a member of theCambodian People’s Party Standing Committee, Minister of NationalAssembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, and head of the Cambodia-VietnamFriendship Association – gave an interview to the Vietnam News Agency on thethreshold of the visit from February 25 to 26.

She said the trip is critical to friendship andcooperation between the two states, noting that the Cambodian Government, ledby Prime Minister Hun Sen, has always paid attention to the reinforcement ofbilateral ties in all aspects. While trade links have been developingvigorously, cooperation in security as well as experience sharing oneducational and social issues have also been increasingly strengthened.

To help enhance the traditional friendship, theCambodian and Vietnamese governments have joined hands in building manyfriendship monuments. The construction of these memorials began when Vietnam’svolunteer soldiers finished their support for the Cambodian military to defeatthe Pol Pot genocidal regime.

The two countries have inaugurated multiplefriendship monuments across Cambodia as a way to remember Vietnam’s assistance tothe Cambodian people, the Deputy PM said, adding that this laid the foundationfor the latter country’s dynamic achievements to this day.

She expressed her belief in the continuousexpansion of bilateral links in the time ahead under the leadership of PM HunSen. Aside from existing partnerships, the two sides will keep expanding connectionsbetween their ministries, sectors, and at all levels.

In particular, the Cambodian Ministry ofNational Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection and the Cambodia-VietnamFriendship Association have regularly met and exchanged experience with theirVietnamese counterparts, she noted.

Men Sam An said she believes the state visit byGeneral Secretary and President Trong will be a success, further contributingto the time-tested friendship and cooperation between the two nations. –VNA
