Tay Ninh (VNA)– Tay Ninh province and its nearbyCambodian provinces of SvayRieng, TboungKhmum and Prey Veng are set to press onwith cooperation to prevent cross-border drug trafficking in 2017.
Their officials signed an agreement on the issueat a meeting in the southern province of Vietnam on December 16.
Accordingly, the four provinces will continueexchanging information about drug-related crimes and enhancing cooperationbetween their drug control forces in investigating and fighting drugtrafficking rings.
They will also direct their subordinatelocalities along the borderline to convene meetings every six months betweendistricts and every quarter between communes.
The sides agreed to work with relevant agenciesto step up educating local people about adhering to each country’s law andcustoms. They are going to work closer to swiftly handle emerging issues andcreate favourable conditions for drug prevention and control activities.
In recent years, relevant forces of Tay Ninh andthe Cambodian provinces have maintained regular meetings, promptly exchangedinformation and discussed cooperation measures to combat drug crimes.
From 2014 to September 2016, Tay Ninh’sauthorised forces uncovered and took legal proceedings against 41 cross-borderdrug trafficking cases and 77 suspects involved. They seized more than 30.4kg of heroin and 2,653 synthetic drug pills.-VNA
